KATHRYN'S RECENT READS 2014
Woah! For almost 2 months, in between my reviews, I surprisingly read 8 books. I know it’s kinda not healthy because I should focus on exam rather on these books but can’t help it. I’m addicted. Lolz. So here, a full new list of books for you!
25/50: The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen

★★★★★ —Highly Recommended! ✔
This is my second Sarah Dessen book. In this book, there are so many feels! I ship Macy & Wes so hard that I love the last 2 chapters so much. And not to mention the whole Wish catering pack! I can’t even handle my love for Delia’s love for chaos, Kristy’s beautiful scars, Bert and his Bertmobile and of course, Monica’s monotone. How I wish I belong to the group! Hey, I have a lot of flaws. I belong! So all in all, this book taught me a lot of things about chaos and imperfection; about how life could be both short and long; and of course, about forever.

26/50: Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

★★★★ —Highly Recommended! ✔

This book is nasty, disturbing and twisted. I can’t say further more. All this teeth-pulling, skin-cutting and poisoning thing — you’ve got to read them yourself. Oh by the way, Ms. Gillian Flynn, I love Adora’s name. It’s way too creepy. And Richard Willis? I imagine a gorgeous detective. Why not. And Amma, oh my freakin’ kid. I love Camille Preaker, honestly. Read this near the bathroom, in case you vomit.

27/50: LoveStruck, Sexy Edition by Ronald Molmisa

★★★★★ —Highly Recommended! ✔
After two books about love from Ronald Molmisa, this book is whole way different. It seems like his books evolved from book 1 to 2 and now, in 3. It will teach you how to resist temptation towards intimacy, how to avoid pre-marital sex and how to stay pure until you’re married. Ronald Molmisa always enlightens me.

28/50: This is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith

★★★ ½ — Recommended! ✔
This is just simply a feel-good book. No evil villains, psychotic people, paranormal activities, weird situations, heavy dramas or hideous crimes. This is what happy looks like. I liked the story, to be perfectly honest. I imagine Graham Larkin as the drop-dead gorgeous matinee idol and Ellie O’Neill as the bubbly and pretty ice cream vendor. I like their humor and how they started their conversation with the wrong e-mail address and Wilbur, the pig. Anyhow, let me just tell you that I’m kind of frustrated with the 4th of July scene. It’s not enough. Seriously. I need more of them that day. It’s like you know you’ll reach the climax but you didn’t feel it. Maybe if Smith took time to improve that particular part, I’ll give this book a five.

29/50: Slammed by Colleen Hoover (Slammed #1)

★★★ ½ — Recommended! ✔
My second series of Colleen Hoover. And she didn’t disappoint me. This book has too many feels. As in a lot. And its big twist is so exciting. I didn’t even realized it will happen. And I was like, ‘So that’s what the teaser is all about’. But honestly, I love its story line. Really. I keep on thinking about Layken & Will’s scenes because it makes my heart flutter. And oh I love Eddie so much! Why do I always have a thing for best friends of main characters huh! However, I find the events in this book so fast — like everything is in rush.

30/50: Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover (Slammed #2)

★★★★ — Recommended! ✔
This sequel is butterflying better than the first book! Everything about this book is perfect. I know that this seems too much or it seems exaggerated but I just love how human the characters were — how they showed their weaknesses and flaws. And how real it is. I guess, exciting love stories are not all about “You and Me Against the World”, but it’s also about “You and Me Against Each Other but still, I Love You”. Plus, I love Kiersten so much! And the unexpected ending, ugh!

31/50: Unwritten Rule by Elizabeth Scott

★★½ — Not Recommended, sorry ✕

Very fast-paced and I don’t know. I like Sarah so much. And Brianna is too annoying. And Ryan is stupid. Really. How could you date the best friend of the girl you really like? I call that stupidity.  Sorry, but this book is overrated.

32/50: We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

★★★★★ — Highly Recommended! ✔
Alright, I read this book for Bookish Pinoys Read-Along and really, I enjoyed this book so much!!!
I declare: This is one of my best reads this year. The first two parts were somehow boring. I thought I would never enjoy the book because I don’t seem to catch up on E. Lockhart’s writing style. Then came the accident that confused me more and made the rest of the book interesting. I found myself searching for answers. Everytime someone appears in the scene, there’s something weird. So as Cadence narrates the story, I began asking questions the same way she does.  Lastly, the ending. I’ll repeat, THE ENDING. It’s worth reading. It was unexpected and I never did thought that E. Lockhart would break my heart that way. So, congratulations, E. Lockhart, you surprised me. You did.

There, I hoped these quick reviews could help you in some ways. Happy reading, my bookish friends!

Today marks the 5th month we’ve been unofficially together. And I can’t believe that it’s been 5 months! Everything happened seems like yesterday, like I’m still counting for days or weeks, not months. Now, it’s thrilling to realize that we managed to be together for five months.
Thank you, my Manongski, for everything. This roller coaster ride with you is so amazing! We had really good and bad times but still, you kept your promise to understand me and wait for me. Thanks for being my mood-setter, my panic-absorber, my stress-reliever, my clown, my sunshine, my listener, my book-buyer, my food partner and my best friend. Thank you. I never felt so loved the way you’re loving me now. Thank you. And I pray for five more months with you, oh no — five more years and more and more.
P.S. Konti na lang, konting konti na lang. Magiging officially together din ‘to. ☺

Hooooooray! Finally, a decent post about our Boracay trip last June. I really apologize for lack of time to share this to y’all. But now that exam is done and I’m still unemployed, it feels like I have all the time in the world. Better yet, let’s move on and get this started.

As you all know, I spent my June in Boracay. This is the first time I went to the infamous summer destination in the Philippines. And I must say that it literally took my breath away.

So my sister and I flew to Aklan on June 7th and we arrived at 9pm or so. Our Tatay and his wife owns a mini-hotel there. It was them who managed our whole trip. We rested for some while and went to dinner. We ate at Don Vito Ristorante Italiano. The pizza is so good, as well as the carbonara. But if you dont like like chili con carne at all, don’t try their lasagna.

The next day, we immediately went to the beach front and did some swimming under the scorching heat of the sun. The infinite view of the sea is so lovely that I can’t help but capture photos of it. In the afternoon, the daughter of my Tatay’s wife, Ate Keisha, took us to Crown Regency. We were supposed to try the Waves but unfortunately it was close because it was Sunday. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the wonderful stay.

It was Father’s Day! Yep, that was my Tatay in the photo above. We just had a food trip that day. We went to a very cheap cafe and had pasta for merienda. Their lasgana tastes really good! And of course, we had crepe. Gah! Nutella crepe! *drooling* Afterwards, my sister and I went to market with my Tatay.

Night life it is! My sister and I enjoyed the night life more than daytime. We’re both night persons so I guess that explains it. So we had one of the best nights in the island when my Tatay and his wife went with us to a bar called Pats Creek. The ambiance is surprisingly good. The live music is reggae and the food is great!

This time, we decided to walk along the shoreline. We stayed at Station 2 so we decided to walk to Station 1 where it’s less crowded and cleaner. I can’t describe how beautiful that afternoon is so I’m just letting the photos sdo the talking.

Another surreal experience. Among the places we’ve been to, Fairways resort is the most beautiful. Oh no, scratch that. Beautiful is an understatement. It’s beyond that. It’s paradise. It’s really hot but my sister and I managed to lay down and feel the sun. This is so lovely. I’m still amazed up to now.

A night of wonder. Days before we leave Boracay, my Tatay and his wife took us to a superb dinner! We went to Astoria Boracay. And I must say that the food is heaven, especially their carrot cake! I’ve never tasted carrot cake before because I don’t eat carrots at all but it was heavenly. Then, we toured around the hotel. And their pool is so beautiful! It matched my sister and I’s outfit for the night.

Oh you know how much we love milk tea!! Even in Boracay, we didn’t forget to taste every freakin’ milk tea there. So we tasted ShareTea (so far the best ever) and Zucchero’s (so far the worst). So on our last night, after we bought pasalubongs for family and friends, we tried Chatime. I already tasted this one but different flavor. So I still enjoyed it.

So on our way home, we’ve decided to take 2Go since both of us haven’t travelled through ships before. It was a 9-hour travel but I enjoyed it so much! I love a day without doing anything. I just lied down and read the whole time. Oh of course, my sister and I also had the best time to eat and chitchats. She’s the best companion ever!

There, done with our whole escapade! My first ever travel is so fun and I can’t wait to do more in the future. My love for travel is burning inside me that I’m planning to go mountain climbing & trekking before this year ends. I just hope to go somewhere North. I’ll keep you posted guize. Love!

KATHRYN's RECENT READS 2014
Hooray foralmost three months of not updating my blog. Here it goes, finally! I’ve been reading too much since June despite the stressful and intense review for board exam. So here are the books I wanna share with you.
20/50 || The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin (Mara Dyer Series #2)

★★★★
The second book of the Mara Dyer series!!! This book is way creepier and more confusing than the first book. I’ve read this last June so my review isn’t as authentic as it should be but hey, I love Noah Shaw! And Mara Dyer, because of the fact that she’s the one narrating in the story, I felt like I am psychotic too or I am weird because I can’t think properly. So if you want something that will disturb you and hunt you even in your sleep, grab this series NOW!

21/50 || Legend by Marie Lu (Legend Series #1)

★★★★
After the creepy and disturbing book of Mara Dyer, here comes ala-Divergent and Hunger Games type of book. I’ve been eyeing this series for a long time, and finally read it! I must say that it was mind-blowing, thrilling and really intense! I fell in love with Day Wing immediately and June Iparis? I can’t contain my admiration. The feels!!! I never thought that I would love this book so much.

22/50 || Prodigy by Marie Lu (Legend Series #2)

★★★★★
I immediately jumped to the next book the moment I finished the last page of Legend. I can’t wait for so long because I can’t get enough of them. Aside from the fact that I love June & Day, I also fell in love with the dystopia itself. Marie Lu managed to explain how the whole dystopia works and what’s the war is all about. I declare, this is the best sequel I ever read. And I love Kaede! God, she rocks!

23/50 || Champion by Marie Lu (Legend Series #3)

★★★★★
I’m hooked with the whole trilogy. I started loving Legend with slight confusion of how the dystopia works. Then continued adoring it with Prodigy (which I declared as the best second book ever). And ending it with Champion is too much to bear. To be honest, I don’t know how to put words after closing the book, because I don’t know how to react. I’m like staring in a blank state and trying to put some logic in my head. I wanna tell myself the words, “It’s over.” And yet my foolish mind will continue to argue that it’s not. Perfect ending. I will miss this trilogy. I swear. This is the best dytopian series ever, well, next to THG, I mean.

24/50 || Anna & the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

★★★★
Alright, after the world of the Republic, I decided to read a light book or contemporary where I can giggle and swoon. And yes, I got it perfectly from this book! I love Anna so much. And the setting is undeniably perfect. I’m like wanting to live in Paris for the rest of my life. Live there and wake up every morning staring at my window with the Eiffel Tower in sight. And of course, sa-woon — over Etienne St. Clair. Uggggh. If not for the abrupt ending — where I’m like hanging in the cliff — I will give this book a five.

Hoped this list could help you! Happy reading!!! ☺
